Rita Gaspar Vieira (Leiria, 1976) lives and works in Leiria, Portugal.

She began to exhibit in the second half of the 2000s, working mostly with used objects, wood and paper. With a practice based on drawing and three-dimensionality, Rita Gaspar Vieira’s work explores the relationship between private and collective memory of inhabited places, highlighting the relationship between daily practices and the artistic procedures of those methods that establish her work; always considering the creative difference achieved due to the expectations in which these actions were processed. In all these actions, the use of water is crucial. Moreover, in her praxis, handmade cotton paper production is frequent, constituting the origin of her drawings and installations.

Rita Gaspar Vieira studied Visual Arts at F.B.A.U.L (Lisbon), where she also did her Master’s degree in Art Theories and holds a PhD in Fine Arts – Drawing.
