CRISTINA ATAÍDE

(Viseu, 1951) The artist lives and works in Lisbon.

Ataíde graduated in sculpture from ESBAL (Escola Superior de Belas Artes, Lisbon), where she also studied equipment design.

Exploring paths that cross drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, video and site-specific intervention, Cristina Ataíde has been developing her work uninterruptedly for over three decades. Her production reveals a thirst for experimentation and a fascination with discovery which, among other things, is anchored in the impulse to travel, in the search for other systems of thought and in a quest for the expression of matter (Sérgio F. Rodrigues).

Of particular note are her most recent solo exhibitions such as A pedra só não voa porque não quer..., Galeria Belo-Galsterer, Lisbon, PT, and institutional exhibitions such as A terra ainda é redonda? MNAC - Museu do Chiado, Lisbon, PT (2023), Dos Rios Voadores, MAMAM Recife, BR (2022), Respiração Boca a Boca, MIEC, Santo Tirso, PT (2022), Dar Corpo ao Vazio, Museu Coleção Berardo, Lisbon, PT (2020/21), Todo y Solo Luz, Centro de Arte Faro de Cabo Mayor, Santander, ES (2021) and others.

Her work is represented in important Portuguese and foreign institutional collections, including the Portuguese State Contemporary Art Collection, the Modern Collection of the Gulbenkian Museum / CAM - Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, PT; Col. Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Lisbon, PT; Col. António Cachola / MACE, Elvas, PT; Col. PLMJ, Lisboa, PT; Col.
